The Chinese defeat at the Battle of the Yellow Sea ended effective resistance to the Japanese Navy. It could have been a much closer fight, the Chinese had a larger fleet including 2 battleships while the Japanese had none. Historically though poor Chinese tactics lead to a crushing defeat.
